Instructions for Using the Clicker:
The activity monitor or "clicker" is a hybrid
pedometer, the most accurate and reliable of a number of units that have been
tested by an independent research organization. It automatically records
every step you take, which we refer to as "clicks." Although it
underestimates the distance traveled when you jog, based on your average stride
length, it overestimates the distance when you take small steps around your
house or office. So it all balances out and produces a highly accurate
estimate of your total activity.
Complete the table below to personalize it to your particular
weight and stride length:
-
Enter your goal weight. for some, this may be your
current weight.
-
Enter the length of a measured distance in feet (ideally 100
ft., but at least 50 ft.)
-
Enter the number of steps it took for you to walk this
distance at a normal pace.
-
Enter Your stride length (Divide #2 by #3 (Divide distance
by steps taken.)
-
Calories you'll burn per mile Multiply #1 by 0.67 (Multiply
goal weight by .067)
-
Clicks to walk one mile Divide 5,280 by #4 (Divide 5,280 by
stride length)
-
Clicks to burn one calorie Divide #6 by #5 (Divide
clicks/mile by calories/mile)
-
Average daily clicks needed to live at your goal weight
(Multiply #6 by 4.5)
-
Average clicks to accelerate fat loss without losing lean
(Multiply #8 by 1.5)
How To Wear the Clicker:
We recommend you
put on the clicker when you first get up in the morning and wear it all day
long. at the end of the day, record the number of clicks you accumulated
and press reset button, which will set clicks back to "0".
Some
people have found they can wear it on their underclothes throughout the day as
long as it fits snugly against their body. Most commonly, the unit will be
attached to your belt, slacks, skirt or warm-ups approximately in line with the
scam (belt) on your slacks or the center of your kneecap and parallel to the
ground. (illustration included in guide that ships with the
clicker). It will not give you accurate readings if it is tilted to one
side or the other. Where you should wear it will be dictated by where it
works best. Try out different positions along the waist, counting the
number of steps you take and comparing that number of steps to what the clicker
actually reads. Remember, put it on first and reset it just before you start
walking. But if it constantly reads the same amount high or low, you can
calculate how much it is off and apply this percentage correction factor to your
total at the end of the day. If you want closer sensitivity, open it by
inserting a coin into the slot on the bottom and twist to open. With a
very small screwdriver, loosen the two small screws at the bottom. Then
slightly turn the white pinion (it meshes into the small teeth.) Turn
clockwise for more sensitivity to count more clicks, and counter clockwise when
your clicker registers too many clicks. Tighten the screws and test the
accuracy by above method. Checking your clicker periodically
throughout the day will give you a constant stream of feedback on how you are
doing relative to living at goal weight. At times when you don't want to, or
can't, wear the unit (swimming, cycling, weight lifting, aerobics, etc.), refer
to the chart included with the unit to find the activity in which you are
participating. Then simply multiply the number of minutes in which you
engaged in the activity times the equivalent clicks per minute as indicated on
the chart. If an activity is not on the list, you can get close enough by
finding the one (s) most similar to it on the table and estimating its value.
Replacing
the battery: Although the battery life is approximately two
years, it may be getting weak if the display becomes dim, fades from view or
will not count when shaken. Insert a coin into the slot on the bottom and
twist to open it up. Before replacing the battery, open the case, remove
the battery and check the contacts. With a pen, slightly raise the two
metal prongs underneath the battery to allow better contact. Also, bend
the "C" shaped prongs on the side of the battery compartment
inward. Screw the cover back into place. If necessary, replace the
old battery with an A-76 photo battery insuring that the "+" side is
up. Helpful Hints:
If the clicker
gets wet, open it up, remove the battery and blow dry the inside
mechanism. Replace the battery. When not wearing a belt it is a good
idea to safety pin the clicker to your clothing to prevent it from falling
off. Also, it is a good idea to label the inside of the unit with your
telephone number in case you lose it. Take care when attaching or removing
the clicker from your belt or clothes to prevent the clip from wearing out and
breaking; it should last you many years.
